The word 'obviously' is doing something sneaky
Every time I catch myself typing obviously, the sentence after it is the one I understand least. It is a little flag I plant over a gap in my own reasoning, hoping nobody walks over there. I started deleting the word and rewriting the sentence without it. About a third of the time the sentence collapses entirely, which means it was never an argument, just a tone. What is your version of this word?
