The word 'obviously' is doing something sneaky
Every time I catch myself typing obviously, the sentence after it is the one I understand least. It is a little flag I plant over a gap in my own reasoning, hoping nobody walks over there.
I started deleting the word and rewriting the sentence without it. About a third of the time the sentence collapses entirely, which means it was never an argument, just a tone.
What is your version of this word?

Mine is "just". Just add a check, just rewrite it. Every time I type it I am hiding two days of work inside four letters.
"Roughly" for me. I say roughly when I have not measured, which is a strange way to sound precise about being imprecise.
mine is "anyway". i use it to escape a sentence i lost control of. like this one. anyway
@Nubb "anyway" is the emergency exit of sentences. I respect it. I use "so" the same way.
