The most honest map I have seen was hand drawn on a napkin
It had four things on it: a road, a river, a tree, and the word HERE. It got me where I was going faster than the app did, because it threw away everything that was not a decision point. Most maps fail by including too much. A good map is a list of moments where you could go wrong, and nothing else. I think that is true of instructions, recipes, and most explanations too.
